ClearType

Monday, December 4th, 2006

I’m astounded. My coworker just came in and showed me how to turn clearType on. My eyes feel better already!! To some of you this is probably something you’ve known about forever, but it’s pretty exciting for me, so thanks, Nathan!  :)

ClearType

Like what you see? Have to have it? Then:

  • Right click on your Windows Desktop > Properties
  • Appearance (Tab) > Effects
  • Where it says Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts, Change the option from Standard to ClearType.
  • Click OK > OK

As a sidenote, this little trick makes the text in PC Study Bible look great! :)

Researching the Church on the Web

Monday, December 4th, 2006

It’s finals week at City University, and like any good student I’m super stressed and working my tail off, getting all my papers done and being prepared for my final tests. The cool thing about the end of this quarter as opposed to the others I have gone through survived, is that I’ve gotten my teachers’ permission to write about something a bit more interesting than whether or not Biblesoft should adopt a data warehouse. Nope, this quarter, my final papers have been about my church, Neighborhood Life Center – and how I can improve (read: rebuild) its website. When I’m done with my last paper I’ll post all of them here for you to read.

In the course of my research for these papers, I’ve stumbled upon some great sites/podcasts. I’ll compile a full list later, but for now, here’s a post I found particularly good:

Stock Options in The Kingdom of Heaven

This is an interesting article (especially for me, a computer scientist) about a man who made it big at Microsoft, then gave it all up to start a church… It’s all about that Heavenly Perspective. We get so caught up with living life day-to-day, that we can forget the real reason we’re here – to make a difference for eternity!

I found out about Mark Batterson (and his blog) after listening to Episode Two of the Creative Synergy Podcast. The interview (and the whole podcast) was very interesting – I’d encourage you to check it out (in fact listen to all three of the Creative Synergy Podcasts if you have the time).

Ok, back to work (and then my homework!).

I’ve added a new feed for photos. It currently takes the first 10 images from the last several albums (I may change this).

Have a great weekend! I’ll leave you with another pic from last weekend.

New Plugin (And Vote for Me!)

Friday, December 1st, 2006

[JPGMag]tammie,22,right[/JPGMag]I got pretty frustrated trying to add the JPG Magazine ads to my blog – so I decided to write a WordPress plugin to simplify things a bit. I’ve posted the plugin here.

It’s my very first WordPress plugin to release, so I hope it isn’t received too harshly! :-)

I really don’t know why JPG Magazine didn’t just make the ad a dynamically generated image with PHP (maybe the line wrapping was too daunting, I don’t know). But anyways, WordPress kept stripping the src from the Javascript code, which obviously made the ad not display…[JPGMag]tammie,1,right[/JPGMag]

Anyways, it was a learning experience writing the plugin. And it works for me (though I’ll be the first to admit it isn’t perfect).

So go ahead and download the plugin if you’re interested. And make sure you give my photos a vote while you’re at it!

A little about the images… The top image was taken at youth conference this year.  That was awesome by the way.  You can also find this image over on Illuminate’s website. I took the second picture of Rhys and Tobin while we were boating on Banks Lake last summer.  That photo can be found right here (if you dig far enough) under Photos.
