In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy DayHow to Survive and Thrive when Opportunity Roars

I just finished reading this book by Mark Batterson. I’d read a lot of positive things about the book before reading it, and I wasn’t disappointed. In fact I bought this book for many of the people on my Christmas list as I was convinced it was such a great book.

So what is the story about? Refer to the Bible passage below.

1 Chron 11:22-25

There was also Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant warrior from Kabzeel. He did many heroic deeds, which included killing two champions of Moab. Another time, on a snowy day, he chased a lion down into a pit and killed it. Once, armed only with a club, he killed an Egyptian warrior who was 7½ feet tall and whose spear was as thick as a weaver’s beam. Benaiah wrenched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with it. Deeds like these made Benaiah as famous as the three mightiest warriors. He was more honored than the other members of the Thirty, though he was not one of the Three. And David made him captain of his bodyguard.

Dinner and Dakota

Tobin and I were looking at our Google calendar on Friday night and realized that we had a play to attend on Saturday. (We have season tickets to the Seattle Rep.) Suprise! The Blue Door. IMG_0042We thought it was going to be pretty lame, but it turned out to be better than we thought. Which was good ’cause we really had to make an effort to make it there on time! The suspension bridge on 99 was up (of course, always happens when we’re in a hurry), and then I’m not sure WHAT was going on at the Seattle Center this weekend, but there were tons of people – and a bunch of cheerleaders running around – weird. lol And because there were a lot of people at the Center, it was a tad difficult to find parking. What a Weekend!

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

Wow, what a weekend! I realize it’s been FOREVER since I’ve really updated my site. I’ve got a good excuse though – Biblesoft is keeping me SUPER hard at work building a new store, and I’m in my next-to-last quarter at City University. Yep, if all goes as planned, I’ll graduate in June. I’ve got two courses this quarter – they meet on Tues and Thurs, so really it feels like my whole week is taken up with school. Wish they were just on Monday and Tuesday, but I digress…

So what happened this weekend? Well a friend of Tobin’s from church (Ken Mullen) asked Tobin to be in his wedding…in Kansas City. Tobin (being the nice guy that he is) agreed to go, and I said that if the plane tickets weren’t too expensive, I’d go too. To make a long story short, we got a pretty good deal on plane tickets and so I went along with Tobin this weekend. We both took Friday off, as our flight left at 6:00 a.m. We flew with Delta, and I can’t say enough good things about their check-in system. We were able to check in within 24 hours of the flight – ONLINE. We also printed our boarding passes at the same time. AND since we didn’t check any luggage, we basically showed up at the airport, went through security (ugh), and then went to our gate. (more…)
