Well today I went on an adventure by bus. I took the Shuttle to the Conference Center where Tobin’s meetings are, rushed up the stairs of the train stop to buy a day pass, and then caught the bus to Frys and Walmart (about a half hour drive away). I bought a waterproof case at Frys and a thumb drive for Tobin (2 gigs, on sale for $19 and it’s a pretty sweet design with no parts you can lose!). Then I hoofed it over to Walmart and bought some sunglasses for Tobin, and a hat and a bunch of sunblock.
After Tobin got off work, we met up with two other couples and headed over to La Jolla where we rented Sea Kayaks. We took the Sea Kayaks out in the ocean and that was quite the adventure. They were sit-upons so we got quite wet (though I luckily didn’t flip like some of the other members of our group!). The waves were monstrous! The water was pretty warm which was nice, and the sun was out. Unfortunately Tobin took off and was way ahead of the rest of the group… I finally caught up with him just about the time that we turned around. :) The way back was much, much easier. A few times I was able to catch a wave and ride it for a bit. In fact at the very end I caught a huge wave and it took me all the way in to shore (I was also paddling like crazy to stay on top of the wave). What a blast!
Once we got back to the kayak place (a few blocks away from the beach), we had tacos and drinks at the place next door (they came with our package deal of renting the kayaks). Then we came back to the hotel.
From the hotel, Tobin and I caught the bus to Old Town and had a chicken quesadilla at a Mexican restaurant. It was great! Also a Mariachi band came over and serenaded us with a love song (all in Spanish of course). lol After that we called the shuttle and headed home.
This was SO much fun, if you haven’t done this you GOTTA go! *you do get wet though…well worth it*! :)
