New Release

Friday, August 10th, 2007 at 8:40 am

Back when I had oodles of time I enjoyed working through Photoshop tutorials that I found across the web. I wish I still had that kind of time (not sure where it all went), but I did read a post at Photojojo about cool tutorials, and thought I’d give one a go. I learned a little about fill layers (I’d always done this a different way), so that was nice.

Here’s the final product…

mlAndKevin

8x5_blackI took those pics last weekend out at Discovery Park with Margie Lou and Kevin. (Which reminds me that I still need to write about last weekend before THIS weekend happens…) You can read the tutorial here.

Update: Tobin’s brother Peter is getting married in Dec, so I created a movie poster for him and Lisa. View that image larger here.

It sounds like they will be using that picture in one way or another at their wedding! :)

    The sad thing is I saw the same site, and did the same tutorial, but mine surely didn’t do as good, but the fun part was I adopted the instructions and had done it in GIMP instead. I am not a graphic guy, but I do like messing.

    LOL! You nerd! I love it! I’d watch it, when does it come out?

    @Mike: GIMP huh? Kudos to you! :) I think it’s always fun to work through a tutorial (but then I don’t have the added work of trying to decipher the directions to work in another software app).

    @ML: Um I think it came out a few weeks ago…

    @Kevin: Thanks! :)

    GIMP= GNU Image Manipulation Program…
    Windows Distribution: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/

    It is free so I don’t have to worry about licensing and stuff. For anything I do at home I tend to use Free Software other then the OS, which came with the computer :-). I can’t help it I am cheap.

    Yeah I tried GIMP awhile back. It wasn’t enough to make me switch away from Photoshop. :) I’m the worst though, I spend more money on my home software than my work does for my work software (true for my hardware too). I’m saving up for the Adobe Master Collection (CS3) right now. At work I have CS2 Premium and Studio 8. Right now at home I have the same, only with CS1.

    I’m lucky that Tobin’s a teacher though. Educational discounts all the way! :)

    Chick flicks aren’t my thing, however the lead actors in this film are amazing, so I’ll go watch it! ;)

    I’m doing good. Spent the weekend in Ephrata, that was fun. Yeah we should go do our nails, BUT I stubbed my toe this weekend and I think I might lose part of my toenail (unless they can glue it back down!). Gross I know… Don’t know how that will work with getting my nails done. We can talk about it tomorrow at youth. lol

    I emailed you a new password for the youth site. Let me know if that works for you. :)

    Are you coming to youth tomorrow? :)

    I don’t know what ML uses for shampoo (probably moisturizing Pantene ProV), but she uses moisturizing Herbal Essences (blue bottle) for conditioner. I have been using the same Herbal Essences for my shampoo and conditioner, but am about ready to switch back to Pantene (I do that every few months).

    Glad the password worked out for you. ;)

    Hey Tammie! I was just checking out your site again and oh my word….Can you do a movie poster like that for our wedding. That is soooo cool! How cool would it be to have something like that as our wedding program cover! Probably expensive to print though with the colors (maybe black and white is better?) We should talk girl, I think I want to hire you. :o) Talk to you soon!
    Love,
    Your future sister-in-law

    Hi Lisa! :) Sure, it took me maybe 1/2 hour to whip that one up. I’d just need two pics (close up and a farther-away shot). Will you guys be back up before the wedding? (I certainly hope so!).

    There are places to get things printed online that are super cheap. We’ve had stuff done at Overnight Prints. It would be just over $100 for 100 programs (if you did them like a brochure). I had friends who got postcards printed online and used them for thank you notes (great idea). Keep in mind that the more stuff you can send off to have done (rather than doing yourself) will save you a lot of time. I spent more than half of a day making all my programs, and then there are the invites! Addressing those is a days-long task in and of itself.

    Aren’t you excited? Though it was stressful, it sure was a lot of fun planning my wedding! :)

    So, would you like a wedding website? You could use it for RSVPs, etc. We could reserve a domain like “peterandlisasprings” (since peterandlisa is taken). Think about it. Oh, and just keep in mind that since you’ll soon be an official member of our family, there’s no way I’d charge you guys anything - for anything.

    Wow, that’s really cool Tammie! Gosh, let me think about what we would need. I definitely like the program idea with the movie poster graphic. That’s just so awesome. I would be willing to pay $100 for 100 programs. It’s such a neat idea. I’ll look through our pictures. My mom is coming out this weekend and she is going to take our photos out at the gardens where we are thinking of getting married…sort of our engagement photos. I’ll let her see the design you did so we know how to photograph it. Maybe I’ll give you several to play with.

    Also, we do have a web address!!! peterandlisa.net My brother actually is a web designer as well so he helped me with that part. I decided to do it pretty quickly so I registered for a free one at theknot.com then he will direct the site to the domain name for me. Thanks for your offer. I’m not sure how long it takes to make one, but if you have a cool idea and it’s quick then I would be willing to switch, I just figured the knot would be quick and easy. I want to get my save-the-date cards out early next week with the web address.

    Ok, well I’ll be in touch with you. Thanks for the offer on the veil too - do you have a picture? I’m not even sure of my dress yet, but we are going shopping this weekend. I had also been talking to Peter about seeing if we could hire you to help take photos during the rehearsal, gathering times and some at the wedding. I haven’t quite decided what I want with the photography yet, but I do like your photos. We’ll talk more about that one later.

    Thanks Tammie, you’re so awesome!
