Awesome Weekends 1

Thursday, August 16th, 2007 at 8:50 am

It’s been awhile since I’ve really written something on my blog, so I think I better give you an update on what’s been going on in my life…

20070803-35After working most of the summer and really not heading over to Ephrata all that much, the weekends in August sure have been fun. If you remember, 3 weekends ago I was in Ephrata, enjoying the sun and the water. Then 2 weekends ago Margie Lou and her bf Kevin came over.

We had a lot of fun. They got here on Friday, and we ended up going out to dinner at Gorditos in the University District. It was a little Mexican restaurant, and man was it good! The nachos were especially good. From there we headed over to Jet City Improv and watched the late (10:30) show. Always funny. :)

2007-0804-180Saturday morning we had Belgian Waffles with strawberry sauce (homemade). Always good. Stephen and Heather came up too. We spent some time trying to figure out what to do before finally just all loading into the Bomber (hey it fits 6!), and heading up to Seattle. It was the weekend of Seafair by the way, so there were tons of people. We parked at the Seattle Center and walked to the Science Center. Stephen, Heather and Tobin and I have a season membership to the Science Center (that’s been a lot of fun btw). We saw a newish dinosaur exhib2007-0804-72it that was very cool, and then took in a laser light show. I’d never done the laser light show there before, so that was really cool. We ended up laying on the floor and watching it play on the ceiling of the dome. I took some pics and a few turned out OK. From there we walked through the butterfly exhibit. I don’t think Kevin had been there before (of if he had it was a long time ago).

2007-0804-185I have to say that I’m impressed by how well those little Cannons do with their macro photography. Tobin, Margie Lou and Heather all used their cameras to take pics, and they turned out quite nice. Of course I had my Cannon too! :) I guess we’re just a family of Cannon snobs!

By the time we had made it through the butterfly exhibit, we were all quite famished, so we rode the Monorail down to Westlake Center and then walked through Pike Place to Ivars (where else?). We seem to hit Ivars each and every time we spend any length of time in 2007-0804-263Seattle. :) That was an interesting trip too, I must say, because I’ve gone to Ivars many times but NEVER have I been HIT IN THE HEAD BY A SEAGULL! Yep, ML was feeding taunting Seagulls with her fries - pulling them away at the last moment when a seagull went for them. One of these unlucky seagulls ended up chasing the fry a bit and ended up grazing me on the head with his feathers. What a surprise! I saw the wh2007-0804-298ole thing through my camera lens… Margie Lou was cracking up (as was everyone else).

From Ivars we headed back up the hills into downtown Seattle and watched the Bourne Ultimatum. Man was that good! Love the Bourne movies - Matt Damon does an excellent job!

After Bourne, we walked to a coffee shop in Westlake that we also hit every time we’re in the area, and chilled there for a bit (actually right up until they closed at 9). Then we hopped the Monorail back up to the Seattle Center, and took pictures of the Space Needle.2007-0804-375 On the way back to the car, we stopped at the fountain, and took some pictures and chatted. I talked with Kevin about his work, etc. We have a lot in common (both have Masters degrees in Computer Science).

So that was Saturday.

2007-08-05-62Sunday we went to church, but instead of church there was a BBQ (with some sharing and prayer beforehand). After church, ML, Kevin and I drove up to Discovery Park (if you recall, Tobin and I went up there on the 4th with Terry and Stina). Tobin had some last-minute stuff he needed to do for camp, that started the next day. This time we went prepared with tennis shoes and appropriate clothing… And it was GREAT! We took some different paths and ended up on a beach. Most of our time was spent walking down this beach and it was gorgeous! We got out to the lighthouse and sat down, and then the cruise ships w2007-08-05-9ent by! I just thought it was funny ’cause our trip wasn’t nearly so awesome when we did it the first time. lol We spent most of the day there, and then ML and Kevin took me home and headed out. What a fun time!

The New Release post that I did used pictures from our trip to Discovery Park.

View pics from Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
