Cecil Moses Park (Green River Trail)

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Continuing on in our saga of the Green River Trail in Tukwila…  Today we skipped North on the trail and walked South from Cecil Moses Park to West Marginal Way.  We parked right next to Boeing and walked across a pretty cool foot bridge to the park.

We saw some bunnies and geese in the park along with a tree in full bloom.

Then we turned around and walked back across the bridge and continued South on the trail until we hit W. Marginal and turned around. (The trail goes across W. Marginal’s bridge then loops down under the bridge and continues South along the Green River. It was a lot of fun. Right before we loaded Evangeline into the car I had Tobin snap some pictures of the two of us. :)

Dash Point

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Another sunny Saturday – another hike! :)  OK so our GPS let us down a little this time.  Technically it did get us to the park – but to the park boundary!  Rather than a leisurely park and walk to the beach we actually had a real hike (along unmarked trails – thanks City of Federal Way).  So yeah, good thing there were other people on the trail – we for sure would’ve gotten lost trying to get to the beach.  According to Buddyrunner on my phone, the hike down to the water was two miles (and it wasn’t that bad when we figured out what trail to take). The beach was nice but the tide was coming in so we didn’t spend a terribly long time on the water – just long enough to snap a few pics.

Problem was, the hike took too long for poor little Eva and she had had enough right about when we were going to turn around.  So we sat down on a picnic bench, and I borrowed Tobin’s jacket and wore it backwards as an improvised nursing cover – and nursed Evangeline who promptly fell asleep. lol The adventures of new parents.  What to do?  Well I set up the GPS on Tobin’s phone so he could navigate back to the actual park – and then he ran the 2 miles uphill back to the car, and drove it down to me.  By the time he made it back Evangeline had woken up – and I put her in the backpacker and met Tobin in the parking lot. It was a little more of an adventure than we were bargaining for, but at least we got a workout (especially Tobin!). :)

Green River Trail

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

So after our fun walk on the Green River Trail with Tobin’s parents the other day, we decided we should do all of the trail (that’s open right now) through Tukwila.  A good section of the trail is closed as there are sandbags on the trail due to the potential of the Howard Hanson Dam failing.  Anyways, we parked at Foster Golf Links and walked South to Fort Dent. This was a pretty lame section of trail as it goes down the edge of Interurban right past a bunch of really seedy Casinos.  I didn’t like that at all. It didn’t help that a bus dropped off a bunch of patrons right in front of us (complete with a hooker). Anyhoo…  I’m hoping this was the worst part of the trail – and everything is better than the section we did today!

Seahurst Park

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

A gorgeous day today!  It really felt like Spring!  (I can’t lie, the sunny weather and blue skies reminded me of Eastern, WA.) Anyways, Tobin and I capitalized on the nice weather and even though it was a weekday we headed over to Seahurst Park in Burien for a little walk.

Did I mention that the weather was gorgeous?! It was shorts weather!

20100324-IMG_3092

If only the weather were like this more often – it would make it a little less difficult to live on this side of the mountains!

Fort Dent (Green River Trail)

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Tobin’s parents were in Seattle today so of course they had to come down and see Evangeline. :)  When they got here, we loaded up into the Magnum and drove down to Fort Dent (here in Tukwila) for a walk on the Green River Trail.

We parked at the sports complex and hopped on the trail heading North. Tobin’s parents had fun pushing Evangeline in her stroller (her daddy had wanted to backpack her as usual, but I convinced him the stroller would be more group-friendly). :)

Marine View Park

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

I think this was my favorite day trip yet.  Normandy Park is just a hop, skip and a jump from our house so I’m surprised we hadn’t visited Marine View Park before now.  Once again the good ol’ GPS helped us out and we drove right to the park – again pretty close to my work – just a few miles North of Biblesoft.  Anyways the path was pretty steep but nice. There was a picnic bench halfway to the water that Tobin and I thought would be really fun to eat lunch at sometime – so if you come visit us, we might have to take you here! :)

20100320-IMG_3067

So most of the main path was paved – though of course we had to do a little side path that was dirt (but not too soggy). The last part was the coolest though – another boardwalk (I just think those are so cool!).  This boardwalk was all stairs down a bluff to the beach below.

Here we all are as a family…

Saltwater State Park

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

This was a relatively short and sweet morning trip down to Saltwater State Park in Des Moines.  Thanks to our GPS we drove right there (it really isn’t that far away from Biblesoft but I’d never been to this park before).

20100313-IMG_2809

It was pretty windy, but we bundled up Evangeline in her jacket (and the lone mitten we could find), and walked down to the water, then along the path to the Northern boundary of the park (not very far at all). The path was paved, and there really wasn’t a lot of people (probably because we were there early enough and the weather wasn’t exactly warm).  Evangeline had a great time – and at the end of the walk when we pulled her out of her backpack, we snapped a few pictures (she was in a great mood).

20100313-IMG_2869

She’s so adorable! I tried to pin back her hair, but it was so windy, that really didn’t last very long. :S

Heather’s Baby Shower Devotion

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

I prepared the following devotion for Heather’s Baby Shower.  Heather is having a girl – Claire.  I made an acostic of her name – Calm, Love, Adventure, Inspire, Relationship and Enjoy and said a little about each word – along with a Bible verse.

Psalm 127:3 (The Message)
Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift?
the fruit of the womb his generous legacy?

Calm - Enjoy the calm times – nursing, etc. Also try and keep calm as opposed to stressing out. No one knows everything the first time around… :) In those times you don’t feel so calm, pray and ask the Lord for help. (You can also give me a call whenever!)

Philippians 4:19
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Love - You will be amazed at the love that you will have for Claire – a totally selfless love.

20091118-IMG_3372.jpg1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

Adventure - Life with a baby is quite the adventure! Through it all rely on the Lord’s guidance.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (New American Standard Bible)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.

Inspire - A child inspires us to be the best we can be. We want to provide the best for our child. A major part of that is providing a foundation in the Lord. I’ve come to realize even more as a parent that my faith in the Lord provides the foundation for how we parent (and we’re so thankful to have the upbringing we had).

Proverbs 22:6 (The Message)
Point your kids in the right direction—
when they’re old they won’t be lost.

Relationship - Once Claire arrives you will have a whole new relationship – Mother and daughter. It’s such a special, precious relationship! It will also change your other relationships (for the better) – especially your relationship with Stephen and the Lord.

1 Peter 2
So clean house! Make a clean sweep of malice and pretense, envy and hurtful talk. You’ve had a taste of God. Now, like infants at the breast, drink deep of God’s pure kindness. Then you’ll grow up mature and whole in God.

Enjoy - Enjoy being a parent! It’s great!

Psalm 127:3 (The Message)
Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift?
the fruit of the womb his generous legacy?
